Denzel Washington and John Travolta hit the big screen in action  thriller The Taking Pelham 1 2 3. Washington stars as Walter Garber, a civil service employee working for the New York subway system who’s world is changed when the train Pelham 123 is hijacked by a criminal mastermind, Ryder played by Travolta. Once in  control of the train Ryder and his well armed gang of four hold the passengers hostage, demanding a million dollar ransom to be delivered within the hour or hostages will be executed.

Sounds like a good one to me. With Denzel Washington playing the heroic negotiator I can only expect a great performance, such as displayed in Deja Vu, Inside Man, and The Manchurian Candidate. Then there’s John Travolta who is playing the villainous criminal mastermind which is more than the icing on the cake as seen in Be Cool and The Punisher.

I just wanna say, I’m tired of seeing remakes of the Jason, Freddy, and Myers horror films. Everyone of the million remakes is nothing more than a exact replica of the the one before, no originality. So to Friday the 13th…I honesty don’t remember half of the movie, yea it was just that boring. I’m not even sure I made it through the movie. But i can tell you Jason fanatics that they stuck to the storyline. The actors did a good job serving their purpose but none gave a standout performance. Overall, this is a very bad horror film and deserves a 5 out of 10.

I heard all the hype about Taken, so i had to check it out.  And honestly…it was pretty good. I have to give it two thumbs up. Liam Neeson delivered a stunning performance, as a former spy who has to save his daughter from forced prostitution on her trip to Paris. Great acting, great plot and storyline. Here’s a short synopsis of the film for your reading pleasure provided by IMDB.

The seventeen year-old Kim is the pride and joy of her father, the retired agent Bryan Mills that left the secret service to stay near Kim in California. Kim lives with her mother Lenore and her wealthy stepfather Stuart; she convinces the reluctant Bryan to sign an authorization to travel to Paris with her friend Amanda. When they arrive, they share a cab with the stranger Peter and Amanda tells to him that they are alone in Paris. When Bryan succeeds in contacting his daughter, she tells that criminals have just break in the spot and they are kidnapped by an Albanese gang of human trafficking. Bryan promises in the phone to kill the kidnapper of his daughter and immediately travels to Paris to find Kim and chase the criminals.

I would definitely recommend this movie, whether or not you like thrillers. This one is one for the collection.

Yup…..Richard Pryor life story hits the big screen and Eddie Murphy is set to star in the biopic. I would have never imagined they would give the legendary Richard Pryor a movie, but alas our dreams have come true…. Being  big Pryor fan I’d want nothing more than to see a movie about the life of Richard Pryor, especially when Eddie Murphy is headlining….Now, I’m a fan of Eddie Murphy only when he’s playing certain roles. Mostly comedy, it’s nothing personal but it’s hard to take him serious otherwise. I am an advocate of people sticking to what suits them and the role of Richard Pryor suits him. Not only does the role suit him, he resembles Pryor a little bit too.

Set to direct the film is Bill Condon. Condon will reunite with Murphy after their 2006 chart banger Dream Girls, and I’m sure they will deliver a stunning and legendary performance. Fox Searchlight is looking for a 2010 summer release date, really looking forward to this one.

Dan Akroyd did an interview with the Boston Glode while promoting The House of Blues in Boston. Of course anytime Dan Akroyd speaks or appears in public, everyone wants to here about the possibility of a third Ghostbuster’s.This time ol’ Akroyd didn’t dissapoint. Below is what Ain’t it Cool reported:

[Comment From Tom] Dan, I’m extremely excited for the HOB to be back in its birth-city!! I will be attending many shows. On a side note, and I’m sure you get these questions a lot, so I apologize in advance…Ghostbusters 3? I’ve heard that the writers of the Office are currently penning a script? How is this coming along, and should we look forward to this movie seeing the light of day? Thanks Dan!

The script has already been developed and they have been the green light for production. They hope to be in production by late fall 2009…Well good luck guyz, we’ve been waiting for a third Ghostbusters film and can’t for it’s release.

Push was pushing it

I just got finished watching Push…… Not what I was expecting. I mean I have a fatal attraction to movies so I’ll watch just about anyone, but this one is pushing it… The plot takes a while to develop and characters pop up all over the place. Honestly it reminded me of Jumper, some superhuman race is being hunted by some super secret agency. I found myself drifting in and out of conscientious during this movie. But all is not lost; the actors make the film actually worthwhile and bearable.

Djimon Hounsou, Dakota Fanning, the always sexy Ming-Na, and Chris Evans all gave outstanding performances. It just goes to show that a good movie needs both a good plot as well as a good cast. Don’t get me wrong the film was decent but that’s it decent. So if you have nothing else to do with one of your evenings, why not watch it. It’d probably be a good waste of time. That being so i gotta give this one a 7.5/10. Below is a short summary provided by IMDB.

A group of young American ex-pats with telekinetic and clairvoyant abilities are hiding from a clandestine U.S. government agency. They must utilize their different talents and band together for a final job enabling them to escape the agency forever.

Ok, I just watched the third installment of the Underworld movie series and i must say…..not bad lol. Great plot, acting and special effects. I am a big fan of prequels if done right and I must say Underworld: Rise of the Lycans was done RIGHT!

I don’t want to give too much away but this installment focuses on the relationship of Lucian(Michael Sheen) who served as Viktor’s lycan servant in the first of the Underworld series and Sonja, Viktor’s daughter. They are forced to hide their love for obvious reasons, one being lycan and the other a vampire. It’s a remix of Romeo and Juliet with a Dracula type twist. Anywayz…I would recommend going to see this movie or getting it on bootleg, whichever you chooze.  Here is a short synopsis provided by IMDB.

The prequel story traces the origins of the centuries-old blood feud between the aristocratic vampires and their onetime slaves, the Lycans. In the Dark Ages, a young Lycan named Lucian emerges as a powerful leader who rallies the werewolves to rise up against Viktor, the cruel vampire king who has enslaved them. Lucian is joined by his secret lover, Sonja, in his battle against the Vampire army and his struggle for Lycan freedom.

Shrek Goes For Four

shrek1Shrek,  Shrek, Shrek and more Shrek…. The time has finally come, Dreamworks Animation has the fourth installment in the Shrek series, Shrek Goes Fourth, set to release in 2010. Now personally i have no problem with the Shrek series, honestly i’m a in the closet fan. The first one was a classic, an innovation of movie magic and animation that will have an lasting effect on the film industry, followed by an equally impressive sequel. The third installment didn’t quite measure up to the standards of it’s earlier counterparts, but wasn’t a complete failure (at least not to me). Now they’re releasing a fourth and who knows what to expect.  From what i hear, the fourth will have Rumpelstiltskin as Shrek’s villainous foe, speculation has arose regarding if the infamous Tom Cruise will voice the fairy tale creature or if they will keep Conrad Vernon(who voiced him in the previous installment), who knows these days with actors giving half ass interviews . But one thing is for certain there will be a fourth and Rumpelstiltskin will have him moment in the spotlight.

For those interested here is an early plot synopsis, thanks to SlashFilm.

After challenging an evil dragon, rescuing a beautiful princess and saving your in-laws’ kingdom, what’s an ogre to do? Well, if you’re Shrek, you suddenly wind up a domesticated family man. Instead of scaring villagers away like he used to, a reluctant Shrek now agrees to autograph  pitch forks. What’s happened to this ogre’s roar?

Longing for the days when he felt like a “real ogre”, Shrek is duped into signing a pact with the smooth-talking deal maker, Rumplestiltskin.

Shrek suddenly finds himself in a in a twisted, alternate version of Far Far Away, where ogres are hunted, Rumplestiltskin is king and Shrek and Fiona have never met. Now, it’s up to Shrek to undo all he’s done in the hopes of saving his friends, restoring his world and reclaiming his one True Love.
